The power of the individual

Karo Tak will talk about her own personal life experience as an animal rights activist which for her started at the age of 8 and share some knowledge on the matter of: THE POWER OF THE INDIVIDUAL, inspired by her work as a Jivamukti Yoga Teacher and vegan cook & activist and her study and research of the work of anthropologist Margaret Mead & the work of Captain Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an organisation she worked for herself for a few years which inspired her even more to dedicate her life fully to animal rights. Her talk will guide everyone through how to be a true “activist” and “powerful individual” in just a few simple steps in daily life.
 


Biography:
Karo started her career as a trained actor & performer, until one day her dedication to her animal rights activism, a mission which started at the age of 8 for her when she rescued a goat from being killed by a local farmer, at the age of 13 she witnessed a violent death of two young seals and then she knew she would dedicate the rest of her life to saving lives and being with the animals, she has rescued seals, whales, sharks, tigers, dogs, cats, Australian wild-life, goats, sheep, rats, horses, rabbits, you name it. She started working for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in 2011 (she was the Chief Cook on board the Bob Barker in 2012), which inspired her to write and publish her own vegan cookbook in 2012 and bringing vegan to the people. Karo is also a Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, she works as a vegan cook, running several vegan projects and catering. She organizes talks, seminars and events, all over the world. She is currently Lisbon based, but has lived in Australia for over a decade. She is extremely interested in human and non human animal studies and has created a few events in Sydney bringing together academics and activists. In this talk at the conference she will focus on “the power of the individual” based on studies done by anthropologist Margaret Mead, the work of Paul Watson (founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society) and her own life experience as an animal rights activist. She held this same talk at Sydney UNI in September 2014.
